CoveritLive – Live Blogging 2.0

Keith McSpurren (CoveritLive)

CoveritLive has been in development since 2006 in response to the increasing need to deliver real time reporting to readers of blogs and newspaper sites. Writers were struggling to create so called ‘live blogs’ for sports, political events, television shows, conferences and earnings calls but the existing software was holding them back. Chatrooms, forums and discussion boards often denigrated into a place for spammers and a small handful of people who felt the need to dominate the group. CoveritLive took the concept of instant messaging and combined it with the idea that an informed, smart writer could make a live blog worth watching. From there, content (video, audio, images) and interactive (polls, viewer questions) features began to fall into place.

Since it came out of beta late in 2007 the software has been used around the world to cover political events, sports at all levels and has been an indispensible tool for journalists live blogging breaking news at conferences notably by TechCrunch during the final CES Keynote given by Bill Gates in January. It does not matter if you service a micro-niche audience or write for a major newspaper, the need for live information combined with multimedia and reader interaction is the same. Our objective is to be the software of choice to bring this new style of reporting into the mainstream.

CoveritLive

Keith is the President of CoveritLive a web based software platform for ‘live blogging’. Launched in November, CoveritLive has been used around the world by journalists and bloggers to cover events in real time for their readers. It has been referred to as “Twitter on steroids”, “a tipping point in online education” and “a new form of reporting to empower citizen journalism”. Previously, Keith was the co-founder of Salesdriver.com in 1999 when ‘software as service’ was still a relatively new idea.
