ErrNET is powerful proofreading software. It is Web-based, works with PDF files, and checks grammar, spelling, style, punctuation, and website links (URLs). ErrNET detects only objective errors and is appropriate for all forms of written English. The spellchecker has over two million terms and includes scientific, medical, and engineering terminology. The accuracy of this program is constantly honed, and the database is updated weekly with new error-check algorithms and terms for the spellchecker. Because ErrNET is Web-based, there is no software to install and maintain and it can be integrated into any online manuscript submission service for fully automated proofreading.
ErrNET is compatible with multiple file formats, for example .DOC, .TXT, and LaTEX, because it works with PDF files. We are currently developing an advanced version of ErrNET that will include standard writing styles such as Associated Press (AP), Chicago Manual of Style, and American Psychological Association (APA). Custom versions of ErrNET can be built for any publication and would include specialized terminology, house styles, or any other publication-specific requirements. ErrNET reduces copyediting time and costs and improves the quality of writing.
Tom Perrin is President and Founder of CyProof LLC, a leading developer of innovative proofreading software. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Lewis & Clark College and a Master of Science degree in biochemistry from the Oregon Graduate Institute. As a scientist, Perrin published several papers, and through writing and publishing, identified major deficiencies of available proofreading software. This was his inspiration to develop more sophisticated and comprehensive software to improve copyediting efficiency for authors, editors and publishers.
