What’s it like to read your books on a Kindle? Can consumers put your content on their Sony Reader? Could you stand to read War and Peace on an iPod Touch? In this session, we’ll review the current set of popular e-readers with a focus on the reading experience: ease of use and purchase, navigation, fonts and layout.
Liza Daly is the president of Threepress Consulting and an experienced software engineer in digital publishing. In 2008 she developed Bookworm, one of the first open source epub readers, which is now hosted and sponsored by O’Reilly Media. In 2010 she is launching Ibis Reader, a cross-platform, HTML5-based mobile web reading system.
Threepress Consulting provides expert ebook strategy and software for publishers, authors and vendors.
Liza is a strong advocate for experimentation, agile development, and innovation in publishing.
Keith Fahlgren is a Publishing Technology Consultant at Threepress. He’s been widely involved in the digital publishing ecosystem, from developing the open-source DocBook-XSL ePub Stylesheets to integrating publishers’ content into Safari Books Online. Keith was formerly at O’Reilly Media.
Anusha has led Plastic Logic’s market research and user studies, exploring the reading behaviour and needs of customers that have informed the design and development of Plastic Logic’s first eReader device, winner of the DEMOfall ‘08 “People’s Choice Award”.
Prior to joining Plastic Logic, Anusha was at Microsoft and other niche software firms. She holds a BA (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, UK and a CIM Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.
