Electronic content delivery is clearly transforming publishing. The rate of change in digital technologies is accelerating at a greater pace and so are consumer expectations. If publishers want to be successful, they need to speak the digital language, capitalize upon the Internet, and transform from pure-play print companies to diverse content producers. But the challenge is not only to compete with online entities and meet the demands of an increasingly tech-savvy audience but to achieve this in a cost effective manner so that the economic model for online publishing works.

The publishing industry has grown and will continue to grow, but most likely in directions that are unexpected. The former sphere of influence is changing, and traditional business models must grow and change with this new environment.
