From 1938 to 1993 I was part of the team that developed and brought the IBM product BookManager to the market. BookManagerbuilt an e-book using the GML usd to create IBM manuals and, using the GML tagging, created a navigable and searchable e-book.

From 1993 to now I am part of the team at the American Physical Society responsible for the strategy and technology to deliver, online, the journals of the American Physical Society, back to 1893.

Our challenge is to move this corpus of content from a print metaphor into an architecture and infrastructure made capable by the web

This tutorial will demonstrate practical solutions for producing content in formats that are friendly to a wide audience while still maintaining quality. Focusing on different models of "book" presentation, we'll explore everything from eBook and audio book production to DAISY, SVG, and even VoiceML generation, demonstrating how all of these advances in publishing tie into XML accessibility.
