OPDS (Open Publication Distribution System) enable the discovery, distribution & acquisition of publications in an open environment.
The participants will discover the basic principles behind OPDS, what an OPDS catalog looks like and produce a basic OPDS catalog.
Hadrien is a software engineer and co-founder at Feedbooks.com. Feedbooks was the first company to distribute e-books in the industry standard EPUB format & is actively involved in designing OPDS, a standard for e-book distribution.
Keith Fahlgren is the Publishing Technology Engineer at O’Reilly Media. He’s been involved with a wide variety of electronic initiatives there, from developing the open-source DocBook-XSL ePub Stylesheets to integrating content into Safari Books Online to building infrastructure around the Atom Publishing Protocol. He’s a member of the OASIS DocBook SubCommittee for Publishers, a group trying to make the DocBook XML standard more accessible for a wide range of professional publishers, and has played a key role in extending O’Reilly’s use of DocBook & ePub.
Liza Daly is a software engineer who specializes in applications for the publishing industry. She was the lead developer on major online products for Oxford University Press and other academic presses. Currently she is an independent consultant and the founder of threepress.org, a platform for open source publishing software.
