Today, the book publishing business is in transformation and as a result all book publishing companies are (to a greater or lesser extent) changing. In this talk, we tackle the profound changes we are all dealing with, including:

  • Transparency, culture and leadership—how to get your organization excited about this new world (and why that’s important)
  • Creating flexible agile organizations
  • Workflow and process changes—and developing process in a changing environment
  • Rethinking roles and retraining; what transformation means to your team and how to rethink jobs within your organization as it evolves.

There have been shifts that impact almost every department. So how do you go about integrating the new startup culture into an existing corporate culture. We’ll go through every department and talk about the effect of digital on that department and its work as well as give you specific examples (both the good and the not so good). What are the biggest hurdles? What are the biggest costs? What have been the biggest surprises? What are the biggest stressors? What does transformation actually means in the day-to-day managing of your organization?

Dominique Raccah is the publisher of Sourcebooks, the company she founded in 1987 as a source of financial information for bankers, which turned out to be about as interesting as it sounds. From that small start, Raccah has directed a continuously growing entrepreneurial company that morphed into a general trade house which happily produces everything from New York Times bestsellers in fiction, to number one titles in both baby names and college guides. Dominique is excited about creating the next generation book publishing company and currently serves as co-chair of the Book Industry Study Group.
