Everything about the book business is changing; and, to the surprise of some, bricks and mortar stores are creating new and innovative ways to reach their customers…both online and in their stores. To paraphrase Mark Twain…the reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated.
Oren J. Teicher is the Chief Executive Officer of the American Booksellers Association. He joined ABA in 1990; and, has served the organization as it’s Director of Government Affairs, Deputy Executive Director, President of the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, and Chief Operating Officer before to his appointment as CEO in 2009.
Prior to joining ABA, he was the Director of Corporate Communications for the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. He also served as the chief-of-staff for a Member of Congress in the US House of Representatives for eight years.
He’s the former Chair of the Media Coalition, Inc.; and, a former Trustee of the White Plains, NY Public Library.
He’s been a long time advocate for independently owned retailers and has been active in a wide range of efforts to support and promote local business.
He’s a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, DC and lives in White Plains, New York with his wife, Alison Greene. He and Alison are the parents of three grown children, Carrie, Jessy, and Zach.
